Chino from New England Equine Rescues, New Hampshire
Chino is a 10 year-old, 14.1 hand grade gelding with unusual coloring. When Chino came to Abenaki Farm, everyone was excited to meet him and try to make a difference in his life. Of course, as most horses do, he is the one making a difference in our lives.
Chino is always ready to snuggle and reciprocate our rubs. He stands fairly quietly on crossties to be haltered, saddled, and bridled. Chino is stabled at night and led to a pasture for turnout every day. This has been a great opportunity to polish his ground manners. He is eager to be haltered and stops, backs up, and turns when asked on the leadline. His stall manners are wonderful; no cribbing, pawing, kicking, or rushing the door when opened. Chino is happy to be with other horses; both in turnout and on trails. He welcomes the company, but is also fine without it.
Chino really seems to thrive on the trails. Nothing deters him. Whether it's road traffic, mud, bridges, hills, or logs to step over, he is more than willing to go through it all. Chino doesn't mind being in front, middle, or in the back during the ride. He just seems happy, ears up, moving forward throughout the ride.
The short list of things that he needs work on are: standing patiently while being brushed (we feel he's just eager), stopping his playful nipping (he may have been handfed a bit too much), and just relaxing more. Understandably, this will take a bit of time and a lot of consistent praise. With this, we have no doubt that Chino will come around. Overall, he is a joy to have; Chino has a great, comical personality and eager heart.
At this point in time, we would not recommend Chino as a child's horse, unless that child had consistent instruction and supervision- mostly, because we feel he deserves to be worked with slowly and confidently. The ideal home for him would be a supervised person that could grow with him, or an experienced, confident person who can work with him and give him the love and life that he deserves.
Chino's adoption fee is negotiable. For more information on Chino, please email Lori. To request an adoption application, please email Beth.
